Celebrate Britain by Visiting a Typical British Town, Village or City

Typically Quaint and Historic British Places to Enchant, and Beguile The following places epitomise 'Britishness' for me. Whether they are tiny towns, much-loved cities, or seaside resorts, they really are great places to visit for culture, shopping, sights, atmosphere and more! They have wonderful things to do, interesting histories, beautiful architecture, and beautiful hotels can be found in all sorts of historic and stylish buildings. So, in no particular order... Chester Chester, Cheshire Olde Worlde charm, stunning Roman history, great shopping and an excellent zoo! As a buzzing university town, Chester is home to a great amount and choice of places to eat, drink and socialise aswell. The shops are varied and if you like one-off and slightly more alternative shops there are plenty of those also. The zoo is fantastic and has a great range of animals including tigers, spider monkeys, and a huge walk-through bat cave!  Chester is small and compact eno

The Appeals of Camping (Even to a Hotel Preferring Girl!)

A Reminder of The Best Things About Camping on A Weekend Trip to Cromer   Camping near the holiday resort town of Cromer for a couple of days this week with our friends and their kids was a welcome and fun experience! The first time I camped or stayed in a caravan I was just a wee one, and I'm not really a stranger to it, however the last time I camped I was a grubby teenager jumping around at the Reading Festival, eating super noodles, crammed in with thousands of other festival goers. I was a little out of touch... The thing that suprised me the most was the enormous range of camping equipment you can get. The thing that impressed me the most was the wholesome-ness of the experience for children, and the thing that put me off the most was putting up a tent in the wind and/or rain (which, thankfully, we didn't have to do!) Although the joy of camping is the simple and outdoors lifestyle, some of the camping equpiment available to make life easier reall

Top Ten Most Quaint Towns and Villages on our Euopean Road Trips So Far

Image
Whilst recently scrapbooking our road trip to Isola d’Elba, Italy, I’ve found myself reminiscing about the cutest little towns and villages we have found along the way. Some of them are just so delicious! This has inspired me to blog my Top Ten Quaintest Towns and Villages that we have come across on our road trips so far. Enjoy! 1.     Annecy, France Annecy Vielle Ville (old town) is a peeling, rustic, cobbly affair with a canal weaving through the centre, past the castle on the hill. The natural setting is incredible, giving you lots of outdoors things to do. All around are high mountains, sheer rock faces, and the clearest lake you have ever seen! Take in the restaurants, shops, patisseries and bakeries as you stroll around this wonderful little town and if the weather is good, hire a pedal boat on Lake Annecy. Accomodation Suggestion An excellent hotel for value, cleanliness and friendly staff is Hotel Alexandra (2/3 stars). It is right in the centre, and the shores

Where Shall We Go For a Travel Adventure? (A Few Pages of Indecisiveness)

Adventure Travel Awaits, But How to Choose Where to Go...? “Oh Fran, I hardly think your jaunts to Europe count as travel…” (Our favourite Manny – Black Books, Series 3) After looking at some flights and various travel excursions, our plans for a non-Europe travel adventure next year sometime are picking up a pace… finally! (Not that we don't adore Europe of course). Jess and I have wanted a travelling adventure for quite some time since our various ‘jaunts to Europe’ together. Our desire for unfamiliarity, the strange, and downright weird, has developed into an indecisive and twitchy need to get off the continent and into some more unexplored locations. Especially as Jess hasn’t left Europe before. Richard’s involvement in the whole saga is very diluted, to the point where his only concern is the ‘third-worldness’ of the place we visit. Oh he’ll be fine. Now, where shall we go? Since Jess’s famous rock climbing episode I am aware that she may be keen for adventure, u
