Both Dubrovnik and Split in Croatia make fantastic holiday cities for beaches , history, atmosphere, eating out, and value for money. However they each have a distinctive appeal of their own and our little road trip covering them both highlights the differences between them, as well as what they have to offer: Dubrovnik Walking around this ancient medieval walled city without the crowds from a whole fleet of crusie ships is a far more pleasant experience than when the cruise ships dock and literally thousands of people flock to the suprisingly small historic centre. The thing is that Dubrovnik's walls are impressively intact which also means tourists don't naturally disperse like they do in other popular cruise destinations like Nice for example. Whilst recently scrapbooking our road trip to Isola d’Elba, Italy, I’ve found myself reminiscing about the cutest little towns and villages we have found along the way. Some of them are just so delicious! This has inspired me to blog my Top Ten Quaintest Towns and Villages that we have come across on our road trips so far. Enjoy! 1.     Annecy, France Annecy Vielle Ville (old town) is a peeling, rustic, cobbly affair with a canal weaving through the centre, past the castle on the hill. The natural setting is incredible, giving you lots of outdoors things to do. All around are high mountains, sheer rock faces, and the clearest lake you have ever seen! Take in the restaurants, shops, patisseries and bakeries as you stroll around this wonderful little town and if the weather is good, hire a pedal boat on Lake Annecy. Road Trip Holiday to Croatia   “You nearly ready?” Richard asks as he lumbers past the bedroom door with a number of bags piled up in his arms. No, I’m not, I think to myself. I’m still choosing which shoes to bring and in the end Richard gives up and tells me to bring the lot. “There’s still loads of room in the boot, it’s the beauty of a road trip!” He says happily. After a few hours from setting off on our road trip holiday to Croatia, we arrive at the Port of Dover. We were aiming to get an earlier ferry (which you can do free of charge, or get the later one), but we have just missed it so we drive back through the town to find a good traditional fish and chip shop.
