Winter Holiday Road Trip, Day 1 - Bardufoss, Norway:

Fly from London to Bardufoss (Change at Oslo)*

3 nights - stay in Malselv Fjellandsby Ski Resort - apartments. Approx £150 per apartment, sleeps 6.

Things to do: Skiing at Malselv resort, trip to see fjords, a visit to Tromso city is also possible. (It is best to hire a car for getting around).

Winter Holiday Road Trip, Day 4 - Kiruna, Sweden:

Drive to Kiruna (Approx 4.5 hours)

There is also a direct train route from Narvik in Norway

3 nights - Stay in Kiruna at Jarnsvagshotellet (by the station). Approx £80 per double room

Places to stop on the way to Kiruna if driving: Narvik town in Norway, and Abisko National Park. This has beautiful mountain scenery, and possibility of Northern Lights if it is dark because this area lies in a 'rain shadow' which rarely has much cloud cover. There is also an Aurora skystation with a chairlift up the mountain to a station and coffee shop at the top. However the Northern Lights are never guaranteed. We saw them in 2011 but not this year :(

Things to do: Husky, snowmobile and/or snowshoeing trips, Icehotel tour, drinking at icebar in the evening (New Years Eve in this case), feeding and visiting reindeer at the Sami reindeer lodge...

Husky, snowshoe and snowmobile trips usually involve stopping at a traditional Sami lapp tent for a coffee and sandwich around a campfire!

Winter Holiday Road Trip, Day 7 - back to Bardufoss:

Drive back to Bardufoss (Approx 4.5 hours).

1 night in apartment ready for flight home the next day.

*Flights:

Depending on what is cheapest at the time, it is possible to fly to Kiruna and change in Stockholm with SAS, to Bardufoss and change at Oslo with Norwegian, or to Tromso and change in Oslo with Norwegian. There are other routes but these are the three cheapest we have found and booked before.
